Are you going on a vacation during the holidays and worry about leaving your pets behind? Here are a few things you can do to make it safer and happier for your pets.
Book early. The best pet sitters book up quickly for the holiday travel season. Many people book 6 months to a year in advance with a favorite sitter. Pet sitting in your home is the safest for your pet because your pets are home in their own surroundings and there aren't other new dogs to meet or new food to get into. It is also the least stressful way to care for a pet that cannot travel with you during a trip. Whether you prefer your pets in your own home, board in a trusted sitter's home, or choose the kennel option, early booking is important during this time of year.
A great pet sitter will be insured with a clean background check and/or bonded. Pet CPR/First Aid certified is also something that we like to see with all of our sitters.
Check reviews and read profiles carefully. Many people don't bother to read profiles. There is a lot of useful information on profiles. That is one of the biggest pet peeves among sitters.
Meet the sitter prior to booking services with your pet. You can learn a lot about a person in a face to face meeting that won't be as plain in a phone conversation or email. See how they interact with your pets.
Sign a Vet release form and a pet-sitting contract with the sitter. These forms protect all parties and allow the sitter to take your pet to the Vet and receive care in an emergency. Veterinarians will often not care for a pet unless they have written permission from the pet's owner. Contracts spell out duties and expectations.
Our goal is to make your holidays as worry-free as possible. We know that it is hard to leave your pets with someone. We take the trust you give us with your pets very seriously. Our first priority is always keeping your pets safe and happy.
